FISH
POLICY- We are finding that more and more people want to take
home fish because they are staying in a house or villa with cooking
facilities and want to share what they caught during the day with
family and friends. This is understandable after paying a given
price to sport fish and having a bountiful day on the water. In
the USVI as in Hawaii, the caught fish are the property of the boat,
Captain, and first mate. There are many reasons for this, the principal
ones being that you are paying to fish with licensed commercial
sport fisherman, the Owner's/Captain's costs associated with operating
and maintaining a fishing charter boat are exorbitant in our region
(not to mention the cost of living for us/our families), and among
other reasons, captains and mates, in addition to gratuity, depend
on the sale of fish as a source of income. Unless fish are caught
and sold we do not make a sustainable living,
HOWEVER, in order to accommodate our client's requests to take fish
with them, we will allow up to 20 lbs. of filleted fish to
be divided up equally between the group. Essentially, at an average
retail cost of $15-$20/lb. of "fresh" fish at most of
the local markets, our guests will be allowed to take between $300
and $400 cash back (retail) along with the fishing charter memories
which may last a lifetime. Our first mate will gladly fillet and
bag your 20 lbs. of filleted fish for you.

| Gratuity
- Captains and First mates work very hard. Not just during a charter
but before and after. Ordinarily, they are at the boat early in the
morning setting up rigs and getting equipment in order for the day's
charter. They work hard during the charter to get as many fish on
for you as possible and hopefully a trophy at the end of the line.
Then, once you are dropped off and the boat is back at the dock, they
clean, scrub, and turn over the boat for the next charter. It is hard
work. Customary USVI gratuity is between 15-20%. If good bartenders
and wait staff get those percentages, a fishing boat crew deserves
it. It is not a requisite but it is definitely always appreciated. |
